The Romantic Shepherd
There is an artistic quality to the shepherd that lends itself to all the attributes of great romantic literature: artistic freedom, imagination, emotion, freedom of spirit and celebrating nature. Today, one might consider a shepherd quaint but irrelevant; yet, the shepherd is one of the most inspiring icons in the world, seen in glass, carvings, etchings and paintings. Psalm 23 is a familiar Text of Scripture. Be inspired to lead by following the Good Shepherd.
The Shepherd Metaphor
Shepherd is a metaphor found in ancient writings for a person (man or woman) in positions of leadership. Historically, shepherds were male but both men and women find themselves in positions of leadership and can learn form the shepherd metaphor.
Everyone is in a position of leadership at some point. You may lead a group, department, agency, business, organization, congregation, family, or nation. Prepare yourself to be ready to lead by learning from and following the Good Shepherd.
Sheep/flock are the followers of the shepherd. This is a metaphor of the people who follow a leader. I consider people who follow a leader a team, group or family.
Lead Your Team
My definition of a team is two or more people working together to accomplish a common goal. A team can be a group, department, agency, business, organization, congregation, family, or nation; people who with purpose follow a shepherd/leader.
